  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for the caramel sauce)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat, add brown sugar, and stir until bubbling. Add sliced apples and cook until tender.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt; gradually blend into the wet mixture.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the pan, layer with caramelized apples, then pour remaining batter over top.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown. Allow cooling in the pan for about ten minutes before inverting onto a platter.
