Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter with brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract and red food coloring; mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. If desired, fold in white chocolate chips.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them two inches apart. Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  7. Allow to cool on wire racks before serving.
