- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–4 tbsp milk or cream
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast; let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Add yeast mixture, eggs, and butter; mix until combined.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter on top followed by brown sugar, cinnamon, and ginger.
- Roll tightly into a log shape and slice into 12 equal pieces. Transfer to a greased baking dish and let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before drizzling with frosting made from powdered sugar mixed with vanilla extract and milk.
