  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla), sliced
  • 1 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onions in olive oil until caramelized (15-20 minutes).
  3. Push the onions aside, add the ground beef, and cook until browned (7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and beef broth; simmer for 5 minutes to combine flavors.
  5. Layer half of the meat mixture in the baking dish, followed by half of the breadcrumbs and cheese. Repeat layers.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Cool slightly before serving.
