  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round baking pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix softened butter, sour cream, eggs, and Guinness until smooth.
  4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering; pour over chocolate chips in a bowl and stir until melted and glossy.
  7. Cool cakes completely before adding the ganache topping.
