  • 4 medium Russet potatoes (about 2 lbs), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground meat with chopped onions, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs. Form into small meatballs.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the meatballs on all sides; set aside.
  4. Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish, season with salt and pepper, then add half of the meatballs. Repeat layers.
  5. Whisk heavy cream and pour over layers. Top with shredded cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for about an hour. Remove foil for the last 10 minutes until cheese is golden.
  7. Let rest before serving.
